Moving to California

It is time for change. A series of opportunities, future potential, desire to travel, and support from friends and family has lead me to move from my hometown of Boston, MA to California. I Feng Shui’ed all my belongings – highly recommend this book if you don’t know what that means, all should read it – and bought a one-way ticket to San Francisco where I’ll be living off of my friend’s couch and looking for a place to live throughout August.

The goal for the month is to find a place in San Francisco or Santa Monica. We have been intently exploring the cities to get a feel for their unique communities and lifestyles. One of the best ways to do this is to jog everywhere. So, on my second day in San Francisco I went for a 2 mile run to explore a bit, though it quickly turned into an 8 miler as I came upon a series of gorgeous trails and beaches that were just asking to be followed.

Giant tree filled trails. Possible home of the Ents.

About a week after landing in SF, Hai and I drove down to Santa Monica to check it out. We decided to take the scenic route along the coastline, and added an extra 5 hours to our 6 hour drive… Regrets were had. Our original Airbnb even fell through, so we had to contact our friend Pete in the afternoon and crash his couch until the next day. We survived, and went on to research housing in the area and walk through some of the main attractions – the pier, Muscle Beach, Venice Beach, the Promenade, etc.

Off the cliffs of the 101. On our 10 hour drive down to LA.

The pier was packed with people and amusements. We were lucky to find this spot to take a pic.

Going to be learning how to surf. Though wet suits are so expensive :/

So as I write this post from a Santa Monica Airbnb of a lovely French/French Canadian couple, we are still on the fence as to where we will end up. Leaning towards San Fran, but the decision will probably have to be made with the wallets due to insane rental prices.

Walking Venice Beach gave me a similar feel to walking through certain areas of New Orleans... Quite the crowd. Stopped by Muscle Beach to throw in a quick workout at the end of the day.

TL;DR – I live in California now, just not quite sure where yet.
