Vietnam Day 2: Flying to Da Nang

8:01 am – Still jet lagged and last night’s dinner is not sitting well. Awake since 3:30 am.

9:32 am – Shot back in to Cho Ben Thanh for breakfast. We paid 100,000 dong for two small bowls of Vit (duck) noodle soup – little did we know much better restaurants were around the corner selling for only 29,000 dong.

Note the fan above our seats - almost every open air restaurant has a personal fan they turn on for patrons when they sit down. Neat.

9:50 am – Walked around again in the market. It’s always entertaining to hear what people say to try and get you to buy things. The meat and fish section was fascinating too. Smell and sanitation are definitely not high priority.

These guys were trying real hard to escape. Don't worry, I definitely won't be eating you.

11:03 am – Working out of a coffee shop until hotel checkout and our flight at 2 pm. Heading to Da Nang – on the coast of Vietnam.

12:50 pm – At the airport. Had a Banh Mi for lunch inside, and it was terrible. We booked our flight last night and found one for $50 to the coast.

1:55 pm – Just boarded. Not too sleepy yet. There are many Australians tourists all over the place.

Aussie paradise.

Aussie paradise.

2:10 pm – Our flight is only half full, but I still may have stolen the window seat from Hai.

3:45 pm – Landed and met up with Hai’s sister, aunt, step uncle, and cousins. Hopped on the back of their scooters and drove to our hotel on the beachfront.

I love scootering around, easily one of my favorite things to do in Vietnam.

4:12 pm – Hotel is… decent. Lots of bugs and geckos inside though. Geckos get really loud at night, but I planned ahead with earplugs.

5:32 pm – Headed down to the beach for a swim. The water is the warmest I have ever swam in, and the waves are relatively large. There is also a beautiful storm in the distance lighting up the mountains.

7:40 pm – Ate a delicious dinner of pork, clams, and one of my favorites – watercress. Also drank some ‘Tiger’ beer (pretty sure it is the Budlight of Europe).

8:30 pm – Riding scooters around the city to look at the scenery. Lot’s of flashy neon lights on pretty much everything – trees, bridges, buildings, plants, signs, etc.

8:43 pm – While we were looking around, two random people tried to steal Hai’s step uncles’ scooter (he left the keys in the ignition). Another random couple saw and chased them off – though they managed to snag a helmet.

Random acts of evil and kindness. Ying/yang - karma - etc etc

9:45 pm – Back in the hotel, going to rest up and then scooter down to Hoi An tomorrow (a rustic small town about an hour out).
